Broad Haven to Marloes

I had a terrible night’s sleep. I just couldn’t drop off. There was hardly any noise of any description, but what little there was, roused me from my slumber. It didn’t help that the campsite was on a slope, so I kept slipping off my sleeping mat! Typically, I was too hot to start off with, then just before dawn, started to feel cold!

I got up at 7:00 and made a quick cup of tea then had a shower before there was a queue! I then wandered down the hill to Broadhaven, where there was a shop. I had to hang around for a few minutes, because it didn’t open until 08:00.

This was Broadhaven beach. Some brave souls were going for an early morning dip, but I gave it a miss!

I got some sarnies etc for lunch from the shop, but they didn’t have any nice cereal for breakfast. I went back to the campsite and packed up, with the intention of having breakfast in the cafe in Little Haven. Despite not leaving until 10:00, the cafe still wasn’t open, so I had to have a flapjack bar instead!

It’s therefore no surprise that the first hour of walking was hard work. There was a steep climb out of the village and my rucksack felt like it had been filled with concrete overnight!

The views started coming thick and fast.

At times, the path was perilously close to the cliff edge with a hundred foot shear drop!

I no time at all, I had to stop to eat something as I was low on energy. It’s amazing how quickly you burn off all your reserves when your carrying a 40 odd pound pack! After replenishment I continued on to St Brides Haven. It was quite busy considering that there is very little there. There were a few families on the beach and lots of anglers.

By now, I was getting knackered again. The views kept coming and cliffs ever more spectacular!
By the time I reached Marloes, I was parched, so I stopped at the pub to make a reservation for an evening meal. They made me have a pint!
I’m staying at a nice level campsite tonight. As I write this, the sun has come out and it’s a lovely evening!
