Pembrokeshire Coast Path Day 1

I am having a few days away, walking the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path.

Before I set off this morning, I weighed my back pack. Oh sh*t! It was 42lbs and the water bladder & bottle hadn’t even been filled!

I travelled down by train.

Firstly I got on a crowded carriage from Warminster to Bristol Parkway. It was one of those trains that stop at every station and seemed to take an age to reach BP.

Everyone was well behaved and practicing social distancing with the vast majority wearing face masks.

We people are quite funny really. The amount of times I saw passengers getting up from their seats, miles before the train pulled into the station they were alighting from! What were they hoping to achieve? There was one particularly obese young lady, who waddled up the aisle and then went ar*e over t*t when the train started braking for the station! Weebles wobble and they do fall down!

I had a ‘posh’ electric inter city train from Bristol to Swansea, with a double seat to myself. I suppose that’s the advantage of social distancing!

At Swansea, I had half an hour between trains so I went to get a coffee and loo stop. However, my train had pulled onto the platform and had virtually filled up by the time I boarded. I managed to find a disabled person drop down seat, which was most uncomfortable! Luckily the train thinned out a bit at Llanelli, so I was able to bag another double seat to myself.

We arrived in Haverfordwest and thankfully there were plenty of waiting taxis outside, for the 7 mile journey to Little Haven.

I am staying at Whitegates campsite, which is very small.

It is positioned on the steep hill overlooking the village.

Even though I haven’t really done any walking today, I was famished and have just had a steak and ale pie at the St Brides Inn washed down with a couple of pints, purely to help me sleep of course😜
